Re: Unwanted Ad

Google places ads based on page content. It doesn't know or care that you are a charity. It just sees dogs. Runboard doesn't control Google ads. You can remove ads completely by paying for Premium board status but to have a free board, Google ads are an evil that you have to live with.

Re: Unwanted Ad

That is sad,....similar issue on our page. We are a clean game clan and the ad on bottom advertises game cheats. It is a failure on their part to allow these types of ads to be placed on customers pages.

However i have a fix for you that worked for me.Firefox with noscript will block it for the users that install that application.

The ads on Runboard are what keep it free...Be grateful there's only a simple little banner ad rather than a popup or two...

Would you be thankful for a free STD? Not one that will kill you but cause you distress? Even if it came from someone you loved,it would still be an unwanted issue that you were not happy with. Yes ads pay the bills and i did not suggest blocking them to stop paying the bills if a premium account would allow the premium user to filter the inappropriate ads for all viewers that visited them, then that would be the correct answer and would have already been in effect for us.

Just a suggestion but this definitely needs to be addressed through your advertising clients to better service YOUR clients needs.

Upgrading your board does allow you to disable ads for all users.

It's not the same...There're ads all over the place...They're not always going to make everyone happy...But they're necessary to keep costs of things such as cable low and things free such as Runboard...As LG pointed out...Premium membership is different from a premium board...

No matter where you go...If it's free...They'll be ads...And you may not always agree with those ads...

Re: Unwanted Ad

Its not the matter of agreeing to ads or not,its the conflicting content of the ads to the users sites. All i am saying is better scrutiny needs to be used on the ads in the areas that will directly contradict the users site. Game cheats on mine is a direct conflict to what our Clan stands for, so is the other user's ads of selling animals on their's.

The ref to STD was a simple comparison to show the fact that while sex was wanted and acceptable to a person, possibly even exploring new frontiers could be ok when added in along with the act being portrayed, the undesirable free STD would not be.

Just because something is free to have a truly conflicting undesirable effect to that user is no excuse.
Yes the ads are fine and understandable, but some users can not have certain types of ads on their sites. This again falls back to better analysis by the companies you allow to post those ads.
I am in no way wanting to stop Runboard from paying their bills. Just think that something needs to be done over the content they place on certain sites. Who would like to see a religion site that end up with satanic ads or porn on them. Get the picture? emoticon

I think Runboard is a fantastic site. The ads were fine that did not directly conflict with our purpose. The need to have them removed came from users that would say OMG this is a clean games only clan with cheat ads on it! I had to find a quick fix for the users. Please do not think i am against nor understanding the why, just the content is the issue, same as the animal charity with dog selling ads.

PS.

After reading another response,i was given this link for the answer to all the users that have this issue. This needs to be Linked to all the FREE sites until PREMIUM BOARD is established.

http://com5.runboard.com/bakheva.f15.t8828

This will resolve the undesirable conflicting ads for all users that visit your sites!!

Thanks Lesigner Girl !!! emoticon

Actually, there is. If you click on the "Support" link at the top of any board, you will see this list of topics:

Account types
Communities
Automatic post notification
User Premium membership
Community keywords and description
Premium community
See the default CSS
Online Private Messages (OPM)

That is where I first learned about user premium and board premium when I first came to Runboard in 2005. If you just take some time to look around, you may be amazed at the information you'll find. emoticon
